The Chūō Line (中央線)

"Chūō Line" (中央線) literally means "central line" and is the name for the main line which links Tokyo with Nagoya through the centre of Honshu, rather than via the coastal route.

History

  • 1965-05: electrification completed between Shinjuku and Matsumoto
  • 1965-07: "Alps" express service starts running
  • 1967-07: "Tokubetsu kaisoku" express service between Takao and Tokyo starts running
